What should you do if Windows won’t boot up on your computer? Usually, this points to an issue with the computer hard drive. However, it could also be the battery. If the battery isn’t holding a charge, your computer won’t get past the initial startup stage. Plug the computer in and make sure it is holding charge. If there isn’t a problem here you need to fix the hard drive. 

The easiest way to resolve a hard drive issue will be booting up your Windows computer in safe mode. Windows 10 makes it easy to find safe mode. Simply restart the PC holding the shift button down, then select Troubleshoot. You will then be presented with numerous bootup options. Safe Mode power up your PC without an internet connection. This can be useful in case malicious software is causing a problem that is stopping your PC from rebooting. If you can access Safe mode you should remove any hardware that has been recently downloaded onto your PC. This could be causing the issue. 

If you are unable to access Safe mode this points to a more serious issue. You can try booting up the PC with the last successful configuration. It’s possible to do this by holding the F8 button before the Windows symbol appears during the initial boot up.

Older versions of Windows such as Windows 7 provide you with a startup repair option. You can access this by installing the original Windows disc. 

If none of these attempts is successful consider a full system restore. You can access this by starting the computer up in safe mode with a command prompt. In the prompt type: rstrui.exe.
